About

Rendez is a house of considered goods.

It begins with the pantry because everything else happens around the table. The family you have, the family you made, the people who show up on a Tuesday for no reason. What you put in front of them is how you tell them to stay.

The standard

Most of what gets called imported on an American shelf is industrial wearing a better label. Owned by a holding company, made at volume, sold on a story written in a marketing meeting. Rendez is what’s left when you take all of that out.

We carry things made by people we can name, using methods that never changed because they never needed to. Shorter ingredient lists. European standards by default. Industrial pretending to be artisanal does not make it in, and neither does anything that needs a marketing budget to convince you it’s good.

Rendez Pantry

The pantry is the first room in the house. Four times a year, a box of staples from small European producers, everything tasted before it earns a place. The Summer’s End Box is the first one.

Where your money goes

Some of it goes to a family that has grown rice in the same flooded fields for centuries and still mills it slowly enough to keep the grain whole. Some goes to two women in Tuscany, one of whom kept bees for a lifetime and then handed the entire practice to the other. Some goes to a salt worker in Brittany who rakes fleur de sel off the surface of the marsh by hand, the way it has been done there since the ninth century.

None of that would matter if the food were mediocre. So everything gets tasted first, next to the versions you can already buy, and most of what we try does not make it in. The ten things in the box are the ones that survived that.

A short line between people who still make things properly and a table that deserves them.

Four times a year

A box arrives at the turn of each season. You decide each time. The Summer’s End Box is the first one, and it goes out in September.
